Form Studies : Bird Netting

Limited to only a simple object and a camera, I needed to portray my random object (bird netting) in a way that was unexpected. Exploring with water, soap, fire, oil, and light I made new discoveries about the texture, lightness, reflective quality, and smell of the bird netting.

INITIAL EXPLORATION

Initial words I came up with were: plastic-y, stretchy, ripples, shapely, dirty feeling on hands, tangled, and undecisive. The stretchiness of the material intrigued me to make new shapes with the object. I also noticed the amount of form and shape in the shadow. My initial approach was very surface and my initial description was "illusionary".

As I was putting together a set of 9, I focused on rotation. The mood of a set changed immediately with just a 90 degree turn.

FINAL COMPENDIUM

The final compendium is a compilation of 10 photos rotated in 4 different ways. My resulting concept for the project was the importance of rotation. It remained a main theme throughout my project. The off-peachy color further emphasized the chaos and mood of the overall piece.

All photos are shown in their original form. The only photoshopping done color balancing.
